Many people remember Ne-Yo as the "it" R&B singer from the early to mid-2000s. His soulful yet upbeat songs like One In A Million and Miss Independent have no doubt helped countless couples get together all over the globe. You would think someone with such an illustrious career dedicated to romance would have a very happy marriage. But the news broke yesterday; it's over between Ne-Yo and his wife Crystal Smith.

The 40-year-old R&B singer confirmed on an episode of a prolific interview based podcast, released on Saturday, that he and his wife have split and plan to end their almost four-year marriage. The two had recently been the subject of breakup rumors and up until this point had denied having any issues in their relationship.

"It's slowly but surely becoming public knowledge that myself and my wife have decided to go ahead and get a divorce," said Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith. "It's not a sad thing, it's more of an us realizing- long story short, I'm never gonna talk bad about her. I'm not that person. There's nothing bad to say about her. She's a fantastic woman. She's the mother of my children and she's always gonna be that and I will always respect her."

Crystal has yet to comment, but the pair are parents to two young sons and Ne-Yo has indicated that they will work together in raising them despite the divorce.
