The world was stunned when on Sunday morning the news of former NBA star Kobe Bryant's death was released. Memorials started cropping up all over the globe. As the Grammy Awards were being held inside, fans brought giant floral displays, handmade signs, and came out in their L.A. Lakers gear to pay their respects at the Staples Center; the place people called "the house that Kobe built." Inside the Awards ceremony several artists paid homage to the late basketball star including Lizzo, Lil Nas X, DJ Khaled and John Legend. Fellow NBA stars Dwyane Wade and LeBron James took to social media in tearful goodbyes to the NBA legend.

Less than 24 hours after Kobe's death, a mural popped up in Los Angeles at Vineyard and Pickford Street featuring Kobe and his daughter, Gianna, who also died in the helicopter crash. "Kobe & Gigi Forever Daddy's Girl," the mural reads. Los Angeles City Hall also lit up in purple and gold, the Lakers' colors. New York City responded in kind, lighting up the Empire State Building in purple and gold as well.

Fans gathered to place flowers and balloons at the foot of the stairs of the housing complex Kobe grew up in, in his hometown of Philadelphia, where several bridges and buildings lit up in purple and gold.

Over his 20 season career in professional basketball Kobe Bryant became the third highest scoring player of all time and is still considered one of the greatest to have played the game. His legacy lives on in family, friends and fans and will not be forgotten.
