Diplo might have royally pissed everyone off by live-streaming Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’s wedding in Las Vegas last month, but apparently there’s even worse news. Joe’s parents weren’t even invited to the ceremony, and they had to find out about it on the internet. The horror!

But before you get all pissed on behalf of mom and dad Jonas, here’s what you should know. Joe and Sophie plan to get married in France later this summer, but to do that, they had to get legally married in the U.S. first. So the ceremony in Vegas was truly a logistical thing. Here’s how Joe explained it.

“Well, in my mind, you know, that was the legal portion of the marriage,” he said during a radio interview. “So I was thinking, like, ‘Look, this is not the most important day. There’s an important day, I mean, I’ll keep private, but ahead of us. So we were, like—this is, like, just whoever’s in town.”

Okay, yes, that makes sense, especially considering Maisie Williams, Sophie’s best friend and maid of honor, wasn’t there either.

“My parents have an amazing restaurant in North Carolina, and I think, like, a couple of their staff walked up and were, like, ‘Congratulations! I saw.’ And then they had to find out. So I was doing a lot of, like, apologizing and ‘Hey, you guys want to come out to L.A.? I got you four spas.’”
