Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters this weekend, with many praising the Marvel Cinematic Universe film for its blend of heart, humor, and youthful energy.

A lot of that is thanks to the film's script, which is courtesy of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. But according to the writing duo, best known for comedies such as Horrible Bosses and Vacation, their version of the film was crafted on a rather short notice.

The pair recently spoke to the Hollywood Reporter, during which they revealed that their pitch of the film was written in three days.

"There was no time to be nervous really." Daley explained. "We had such a ticking clock in getting this thing made and also in pitching it."

When asked how the pair's pitch ended up winning Marvel over, Goldstein highlighted Homecoming's focus on the high school side of Peter Parker (Tom Holland).

"I think it was the combination of the humor of it, along with the relatability, that we told a high school story that happened to have superpowers." Goldstein explained. "I think that's something everybody can relate to. Just because you get superpowers, doesn't mean you become an adult or sophisticated or can get the girl."

"In many ways," added Daley, "it veers you into a more irresponsible and immature direction."

That direction seems to have paid off, with Homecoming dominating its opening weekend's box office with a projected gross of $100 million.
