FLOOD RISK PERSISTS IN SRI LANKA DESPITE DECLINING WATER LEVELS

Officials warn that, despite recent declines in water levels in rivers and reservoirs, the risk of flooding still remains in many parts of Sri Lanka. Residual water in low-lying areas, saturated soil, blocked drainage systems, and ongoing heavy rainfall can all contribute to localized flooding.

even when overall water levels appear to be dropping. Authorities urge residents in vulnerable zones to remain vigilant, follow safety instructions, and avoid returning to flood-prone homes or areas until they’re declared safe.
