The Sri Lankan government has announced that it will pursue strict legal action against those found circulating false or misleading information especially when such misinformation has the potential to cause public panic, unrest, or harm to community safety. The move aims to safeguard public order and ensure that news and communications remain responsible and accurate. Citizens are being urged to verify sources before sharing news, as authorities plan to prosecute offenders under existing laws deemed applicable to misinformation and disinformation.
