The Sri Lankan government has announced that all overseas disaster-relief aid shipments will henceforth be declared duty-free, removing customs barriers for donations of food, medicine, clothing, and emergency supplies. This measure aims to speed up delivery of essential relief to communities affected by floods, storms, or other disasters, ensuring help arrives without delays or added costs for humanitarian organisations and donors. By waiving import duties on aid, authorities hope to encourage more international support and make disaster response more efficient and accessible.
