Composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz has confirmed that he and writer Winnie Holzman are developing a fresh idea within the Oz universe, separate from the story of Elphaba and Glinda. He described it as an “adjunct” not a sequel because he feels the Glinda-Elphaba arc is complete. Schwartz pointed to Gregory Maguire’s Oz novels (beyond Wicked) as possible inspiration. For now, the project is in early stages, and it’s not yet clear whether it will be for film, stage, or another format.
