Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in talks to star as the villainous Mother Gothel in Tangled’s long-anticipated live-action remake, which Disney has revived for production after pausing it earlier this year. The project  directed by Michael Gracey (known for the hit film The Greatest Showman) and written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson  is still in early development, with casting for Rapunzel and Flynn Rider yet to be announced. Mother Gothel, the entrapping witch obsessed with youth, will once again be central to Rapunzel’s story. If Johansson signs on, it will mark a reunion with Disney after her run as Marvel’s Natasha Romanoff, as the studio looks to inject fresh star power into its modern-classic adaptations.
