The standalone project, which Cregger says he conceptualized before the original movie’s release, will explore the mysterious witch’s dark origins and her rise into power, drawing on deleted back-story material that was cut from Weapons. Played by Amy Madigan, Aunt Gladys has become a viral horror icon thanks to her unsettling presence and blood-driven powers in the feature. Talks are underway with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, though the script is still in early development and no release date has been announced yet.
