Costume designer Molly Rogers addressed the backlash, joking, “Do you want Carrie to wear a straw hat from L.L.Bean?” Fans compared the look to Strawberry Shortcake, but Rogers and co-designer Danny Santiago say the bold fashion is just who Carrie is.

The hat in question? Sarah Jessica Parker picked it herself during a fitting. “She just looked in the mirror and said, ‘I love it,’” Santiago recalled.

The duo, who also worked on Sex and the City, have teamed up with Fashionphile for a curated edit inspired by the show, including designer staples like Chanel and Bottega Veneta.

Despite the memes and mixed reactions, the designers embrace it all. “Carrie dresses for herself,” says Santiago. “It’s fashion with personality—and not everyone has to get it.”
