Morten Harket, iconic lead singer of the ‘80s synth-pop band A-ha, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, the band confirmed Wednesday. Known for global hits like “Take On Me” and “The Living Daylights,” Harket, 65, has quietly battled the condition while continuing to work on music.
He revealed the diagnosis had been known to close friends but kept private due to the unpredictable nature of going public. “I’m trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline,” he shared. Despite neurological procedures in 2024 improving many symptoms, Harket admits singing remains a challenge.
“I don’t feel like singing,” he said. “But I don’t know whether I’ll be able to manage it at some point in the future.”
While unsure if fans will hear new music soon, Harket expressed hope: “I really like the idea of just going for it… with something completely outside the box.”
