Miley Cyrus opened up about a frightening medical emergency she experienced while co-hosting Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party on NBC in 2023. In a recent episode of The Zane Lowe Interview Series on Apple Music 1, the singer revealed she suffered an ovarian cyst rupture during the live broadcast.

“I had a pretty traumatic experience… I had an ovarian cyst rupture,” Miley recalled. The Flowers hitmaker said she was mid-show when the pain hit, yet she pushed through performances with Dolly Parton, Sia, and Paris Hilton despite the excruciating discomfort.

“It was really, really hard on me,” she admitted, revealing the scare left her shaken for months and even made her consider quitting music altogether.

A candid conversation with SNL creator Lorne Michaels helped change her perspective. “Everyone has six months to feel sorry for themselves,” he told her. “Then we start to rebuild.”
