Jennifer Lawrence opened up about how becoming a mother has profoundly influenced her acting, during the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 18. While promoting Die My Love, Lawrence reflected on the emotional parallels between her own experience and that of her character Grace, who battles postpartum depression.

“As a mother, it was really hard to separate what I would do from what she would do,” she shared. “It was just heartbreaking.”

Lawrence, now a mom of two, revealed she first read the source novel shortly after her son Cy’s birth in 2022. “There’s nothing like postpartum. It’s extremely isolating,” she said.

At the press conference, she added, “Having children changes everything… It’s brutal and incredible.” The Oscar-winner explained that parenthood heightened her emotional sensitivity and improved her craft. “They’ve changed me creatively,” she said. “I highly recommend having kids if you want to be an actor.”
