ICE CUBE SAYS SUCCESS ISN’T ABOUT THE BOX OFFICE: “IT’S ABOUT THE LAUGHS”

Ice Cube is redefining what makes a movie a hit — and it’s not ticket sales. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the rapper and actor explained that for him, real success comes from how audiences connect with the film.

“It’s not how much money you make. No, it’s how many times people can watch it and enjoy it,” Cube said. “Hearing people laugh in the theatre... that’s when a movie is great to me.”

Cube, who launched the Friday franchise in 1995, recently reached a deal with Warner Bros. to write and star in Last Friday, the long-awaited fourth installment. Despite the 20-year gap, he says there’s “no pressure,” crediting a strong creative team and a desire to make fans genuinely laugh.

“It has to be worth people’s time and money,” he added. “That’s the fun — creating something people love.”
