James Gunn has unveiled the first look at Lanterns, starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre on his official Instagram profile.

The series follows investigating a dark mystery in the American heartland. Executive producer and showrunner Chris Mundy described it as a “layered drama” blending tension, mystery, and emotional depth.

HBO is producing the eight-episode series in association with Warner Bros. and DC Studios. It features a star-studded cast, including Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen. Lanterns is co-written by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), comic writer Tom King, and Mundy.

Gunn called the series “something really special,” fueling excitement for this fresh take on the DC Universe.
