MENENDEZ BROTHERS SEEK RESENTENCING AND PAROLE AS NEW NETFLIX SERIES RENEWS INTEREST IN THEIR CASE
Monday, 24 February 2025
The Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, convicted of murdering their parents in 1989, have gained renewed attention following the release of the 2024 Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The brothers, who claim lifelong abuse by their parents, are serving life sentences without parole. In 2023, their attorneys filed a petition to overturn their convictions, arguing the crime was manslaughter due to abuse. Former Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón recommended resentencing and parole eligibility in 2024, but new District Attorney Nathan Hochman has opposed it, citing doubts over the credibility of evidence. The brothers face a court hearing on March 20, 2025. Lyle has been married twice in prison, while Erik has been married to Tammi Saccoman since 1999. The brothers remain incarcerated at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, despite their efforts for resentencing and parole.
