JONATHAN BAILEY ABSENT FROM 2025 SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS DUE TO THEATER COMMITMENT, SHARES INSIGHT ON RICHARD II ROLE
Jonathan Bailey was absent from the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 23 despite receiving three nominations. The 36-year-old actor is currently starring in Richard II at the Bridge Theatre in London, which kept him from attending the ceremony. He was nominated for his roles in Wicked (Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture) and Bridgerton (Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series). While his Wicked and Bridgerton costars, including Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, attended, Bailey’s focus is on his stage performance. He shared that his portrayal of Richard II was inspired by Succession's Logan Roy, reflecting on inherited power. Bailey expressed joy at being back on stage and hopes to inspire new theatergoers. He also shared fun memories from working with Grande on Wicked, describing their chemistry as "fizz" from their shared energy.
