THE 2025 MET GALA: "SUPERFINE: TAILORING BLACK STYLE" EXHIBIT CELEBRATES BLACK DANDYISM AND MENSWEAR FASHION
Monday, 10 February 2025
The 2025 Met Gala will center around the theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," exploring Black dandyism and its role in shaping Black identities. The exhibit, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion, will feature menswear, photography, fine art, and historical artifacts, marking the first Costume Institute exhibition focused on menswear since 2003. The dress code, "Tailored for You," encourages attendees to reflect their personal style, with expected nods to iconic dandy fashions, such as zoot suits and Congolese sapeur styles. Co-chairs like Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, alongside honorary chair LeBron James, are expected to inspire unique fashion interpretations. The exhibit, on view May 10–October 26, 2025, will showcase works by artists like Torkwase Dyson and Virgil Abloh, alongside artifacts from cultural icons like Frederick Douglass and André Leon Talley. The Met will also host related talks and programs across NYC.
