KOBE BRYANT'S "ACHILLES GAME" SNEAKERS SET TO AUCTION FOR UP TO $800,000
The sneakers worn by Kobe Bryant during his iconic "Achilles Game" in 2013 are up for auction, with Sotheby’s predicting they could fetch between $600,000 and $800,000. The pair of Nike Kobe 8 Elite "Lakers Home" sneakers were worn by Bryant on April 12, 2013, when he famously finished a game against the Golden State Warriors despite tearing his Achilles tendon. The auction will be part of Sotheby’s The One sale, which begins on Feb. 7 in New York. This follows the sale of Bryant's Staples Center locker for $2.9 million in July 2022. Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, described the "Achilles Game" as a key example of Bryant’s "Mamba Mentality," representing his unwavering commitment to excellence and competitive spirit.
