28 Years Later, the sequel to Danny Boyle’s 2002 film 28 Days Later, is set to release in June 2025, kicking off a new trilogy. Directed by Nia DaCosta, the film explores the impact of living with a long-term viral pandemic. In a surprising twist, parts of the film were shot using iPhone 15s, marking a significant shift in filmmaking techniques. This decision echoes the original film’s use of low-budget, unconventional equipment, such as the Canon XL-1, to create a raw and immediate feel. The film’s $75 million budget makes it the biggest movie to date to use iPhones for key scenes. Boyle’s longtime collaborator, cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle, returns for the sequel, continuing the tradition of pushing boundaries in filmmaking. 28 Years Later is set to capture the terrifying consequences of a decades-long viral outbreak.
