TOM HOLLAND'S SPIDER-MAN AUDITION: BACKFLIPS, REGRETS, AND LANDING THE ROLE
In the 2012 hit movie The Impossible, a young Tom Holland portrayed a teen caught in one of the deadliest tsunamis. By the time the film was released, he was 16. Just five years later, at 19, he landed one of the most sought-after roles in Hollywood – Peter Parker in Spider-Man. Reflecting on his audition, director Anthony Russo revealed that Holland was up against over 1,500 actors, including Timothée Chalamet. Russo, who co-directed Captain America: Civil War, knew almost immediately that Holland was perfect for the role.

Holland’s audition for Spider-Man: No Way Home stood out when he performed a standing backflip, showcasing his gymnast skills. Director Jon Watts called him "young, sweet, and charming" and said it felt like watching the real Peter Parker. Years later, Holland admitted he regretted doing a backflip for his younger cousin, pulling muscles in his stomach and being unable to laugh for weeks.
