Olly Murs has confirmed he has spoken with Simon Cowell about the vacant X Factor presenter job.

The 'Wrapped Up' singer revealed that Cowell is keen on the idea of reuniting him with former Xtra Factor co-presenter Caroline Flack on the ITV show.

It was previously revealed that host Dermot O'Leary will not return to the show for its upcoming 12th series.

Speaking about the position, Murs told spin1038: "I haven't got it yet. We've spoken about it in the papers but nothing's been finalised or nothing's been signed.

"We've had had a few discussions, that's about it really."

He continued: "Me and Caroline have obviously spoken about the idea of it, but like I say, it's just an idea at the moment, nothing's been finalised."

Murs - who has said he would only be willing to host if Flack was also on board - went on to reveal that it was Cowell's idea for the pair to present the show together.

"Me and Caroline we were never interested in taking Dermot's job, it was only, you know, Simon's idea of potentially having me and Caroline do it. 

"I would never want to take Dermot's job because I love him so much and I wouldn't want to be compared to someone as good as him."

An X Factor spokesperson previously told Digital Spy that a replacement for O'Leary has yet to be chosen.
