Charli XCX Reflects on Her Teenage Mixtape and Rising Fame
Charli XCX revealed her disdain for her first mixtape, *14*, which she recorded at just 14 years old. In an interview with *Variety*, the singer admitted, "God, I hate that album so much," explaining that it was a mix of guitar tracks and early experiments with dance music. Despite her criticism, she acknowledged the project hinted at her evolving style. The mixtape, shared on platforms like MySpace, helped Charli gain traction and book club gigs, even while underage. "Performing with my iPod and a mic at raves inspired me," the now 32-year-old recalled. Charli also reflected on her sixth album, *Brat*, and its global success with hits like *Apple* and *360*. However, with newfound fame comes challenges. "Sometimes I love the attention, and sometimes I don’t," she admitted, noting she’s at a crossroads in navigating her personal and professional life.
