Debbie Nelson, mother of rapper Eminem, has passed away at 69 after battling advanced lung cancer. Representatives confirmed her death occurred on 2 December in St. Joseph, Missouri. News of Nelson’s illness first surfaced in September, though neither she nor Eminem publicly addressed it. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, had a tumultuous relationship with his mother, marked by allegations of abuse and neglect, which he referenced in songs like *Cleanin’ Out My Closet*. However, in his 2013 track *Headlights*, the rapper apologized for past criticisms. Their relationship was further strained by Nelson’s 1999 defamation lawsuit against him and her 2007 memoir *My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem*. Despite their rocky history, Nelson reached out to her son with congratulatory wishes during his 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Eminem’s father, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr., also died in 2019 at age 67.
