Ed Sheeran Criticizes Use of His Vocals on Band Aid 40 Single

Ed Sheeran has expressed disappointment over his vocals being included in the new Band Aid 40 single without his consent. The track, an "ultimate mix" of *Do They Know It’s Christmas?*, combines contributions from Band Aid’s 1984, 2004, and 2014 versions.  Sheeran, who participated in Band Aid 30, stated on Instagram that he would have "respectfully declined" involvement, citing a changed perspective on the song's narrative. He echoed Ghanaian-English artist Fuse ODG, who previously declined to join Band Aid due to its perpetuation of harmful stereotypes about Africa.  Fuse ODG criticized the initiative for fueling pity over partnership, hindering Africa's economic growth and dignity. In response, Band Aid co-founder Bob Geldof defended the song's life-saving impact, dismissing accusations of "colonial tropes."  Despite the controversy, Band Aid 40 is set to premiere on British radio on November 25, continuing its charitable legacy.
