Halsey revealed that she had always been "too scared" to release songs about her father, Chris Frangipane, until now. For her latest album, *The Great Impersonator*, the singer included the track "Hurt Feelings," which explores their "complicated" relationship with him. Halsey shared on the *Call Her Daddy* podcast that while she had written songs about her dad on previous albums, she always ended up cutting them from the tracklist. This time, however, she felt ready to share her truth. The song reflects on the tension in her household growing up and the strained relationship with her father, especially after Halsey became the family's primary breadwinner at a young age. Halsey described the emotional conflict of supporting her family while navigating a difficult dynamic with her father. *The Great Impersonator* was released on October 26.
