The Canadian singer dated the former Fifth Harmony star from July 2019 until their split in November 2021. Although they briefly reconciled in 2023, they eventually parted ways again. Mendes explained that public attention and online speculation affected their relationship. "No matter how strong mentally you are, millions of people commenting on it makes it hard not to be swayed," he said. He emphasized that their relationship was real, not a movie, and that love can be confusing and challenging. Despite their breakup, Mendes revealed that he and Cabello remain close.
