Kehlani's ex-partner, Javaughn Young-White, has filed for legal and physical custody of their five-year-old daughter, Adeya, along with requesting child support. According to court documents obtained by Billboard, Young-White claims the "Nights Like This" singer is involved in a cult, which he alleges significantly influences her actions and parenting.

Young-White's filing in Los Angeles states, "Everyone else has bigger say-so when it comes to the upbringing of our daughter than I do." He also asserts that during past attempts to retrieve Adeya, he was "physically restrained and threatened" by cult members. Furthermore, he claims Adeya is cared for by cult members in Kehlani’s absence, sleeping in their beds and being bathed by them.

He is also requesting that Kehlani undergo a psychological exam, his name be added to Adeya's birth certificate, and Adeya's surname be changed to Parrish Young-White. Kehlani has not publicly responded to these allegations.
