Mel B, former Spice Girl, will be awarded an honorary doctorate from Leeds Beckett University in August for her work in domestic abuse advocacy. Since her 2018 split from ex-husband Stephen Belafonte, whom she accused of emotional and physical abuse, Mel B has campaigned against domestic abuse and collaborated with charities such as Women's Aid. Stephen’s legal team has denied the allegations. The 49-year-old singer has also completed a course in trauma-informed care at Leeds Beckett University. Mel expressed pride in her academic achievements, stating, "Since leaving my marriage I've told friends and family I'd love to go to uni, but I don't think people took it seriously. But this gave me an opportunity to actually do it." She also shared her experience of moving in with her mother post-divorce, revealing she faced significant financial challenges alongside emotional and physical abuse.
