Kesha Drops First Independent Single After Leaving Dr. Luke's Label
Thursday, 04 July 2024
Kesha has released "Joyride," her first independent single since parting ways with producer Dr. Luke's record label. Celebrating America's Independence Day, the singer debuted the track at Brooklyn's Planet Pride. "Joyride" marks a return to Kesha's electronic pop roots, reminiscent of her hits "We R Who We R" and "Tik Tok." The song includes a nod to Mean Girls with the lyrics, "Get in, loser, for the joyride."
Before the release, Kesha expressed gratitude to her followers on X, saying, "I couldn't have made it through without all of you. Now we joyride." She celebrated on Instagram, sharing a video of herself singing the song with drag queens.
"Joyride" is Kesha's first release post-Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records, following a lengthy legal battle over allegations of drugging and sexual assault. The case settled out of court in June 2023. Kesha’s final album under Kemosabe, "Gag Order," was released in December 2023.
