This removal includes extensive music journalism, notably the "Mixtape Monday" column, crucial for hip-hop history. Former MTV News staff expressed outrage over the loss on social media, with Patrick Hosken and Crystal Bell lamenting the erasure of years of work and pop culture history. The CMT website also saw its country-music archives disappear. Efforts to retrieve articles through internet archiving services like the Wayback Machine have proven unsuccessful. Paramount’s downsizing in May 2023 led to a 25% workforce reduction across Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.
