UGC Urges Caution in Sharing A/Level Results on Social Media
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged the public to avoid posting the 2023 (2024) GCE Advanced Level Examination results on social media. UGC Chairperson Prof. Sampath Amaratunge cautioned that sharing results online could jeopardize students' university application opportunities. He highlighted the risk of personal information, such as index numbers and National Identity Card (NIC) numbers, being misused for unauthorized admissions. Prof. Amaratunge emphasized that rectifying such incidents could be time-consuming, causing delays in the application process. Therefore, he advised students and families to refrain from sharing A/Level results, particularly on Facebook. The 2023 (2024) exam results, released on May 31, showed that 64.33% of the candidates qualified for university entrance out of a total of 269,613 examinees.
