Climber with No Experience Hikes to Everest Base Camp, Claims Anyone Can Do It

Neel Parekh, a business owner with no prior hiking experience, recently completed a nine-day trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. Despite only three weeks of training, Parekh believes anyone with average fitness can achieve this feat. Sharing his journey on social media, Parekh described the trek as long but not overly technical, with challenges stemming from unexpected difficulties.

Parekh's adventure began with a flight to the notoriously dangerous Lukla Airport. The trek's initial stages were manageable, but the physical and altitude challenges intensified over the days. He experienced severe altitude sickness, fatigue from bad sleep, freezing temperatures, and difficult terrain. Despite these hurdles, Parekh and his wife successfully reached the base camp. He emphasized that while physical fitness is crucial, coping with altitude is the biggest challenge. However, he cautioned potential climbers about the inherent dangers, including avalanches and extreme weather conditions.
