LeBron James Makes History as First NBA Player to Score 40,000 Points
Monday, 04 March 2024
Basketball icon LeBron James achieved a historic milestone on Saturday, becoming the first NBA player to amass 40,000 career regular-season points. Despite the monumental achievement, the 39-year-old Los Angeles Lakers forward described the moment as "bittersweet" as his team suffered a 124-114 defeat against the Denver Nuggets.
Reflecting on his accomplishment, James expressed pride in being the inaugural player to reach such a significant feat in the league's rich history. However, he underscored his primary focus on winning, lamenting that the milestone occurred amidst a loss.
Having achieved this milestone in 1,475 regular-season games, James has consistently showcased his scoring prowess, tallying double-digit points in each of his last 1,205 games. Additionally, James reflected on the immense pressure he faced since his debut over two decades ago, highlighting the expectations placed on him as a young player.
James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's previous record of 38,387 career points last February, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history. Notably, he also ranks fourth in career assists, further exemplifying his versatility and impact on the game.
