Education Ministry Implements Changes: GCE O/L Reduced to Seven Subjects
In a significant move, the Ministry of Education has announced a reduction in the number of subjects for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination to seven. Minister Susil Premajayantha revealed this decision, emphasizing the need to streamline the examination process and ensure students receive comprehensive education in essential areas.

The Education Ministry stated that steps would be taken to assess industry and environmental knowledge locally for the remaining three subjects. The aim is to prevent students from failing the examination and provide them with opportunities for professional training in their chosen subject areas during the GCE Advanced Level stream.

Additionally, Minister Premajayantha highlighted plans to offer English, IT, and guidance training to 50,000 out of the 3,370,000 students who took the GCE Advanced Level Examination this year. These training programs will commence tomorrow across 300 centers nationwide, aiming to equip students with essential skills for their academic and professional pursuits.
