Apple Takes Lead Over Samsung, Becomes World's Top Smartphone Manufacturer
Saturday, 20 January 2024
In a significant market shift, Apple has emerged as the dominant force in the global smartphone arena, toppling Samsung from its longstanding position for the first time in 12 years. According to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple secured over 20% of the market share in phone shipments last year. Meanwhile, Samsung held a 19.4% share, with Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi, OPPO, and Transsion closely trailing. The smartphone industry experienced a downturn, with nearly 1.2 billion units sold in the past year, marking a more than 3% decrease compared to the previous year. This decline, the lowest in a decade, is attributed to consumer caution amid economic challenges and high interest rates during the pandemic. Experts, however, anticipate a market recovery in the coming year.
