Elon Musk boasts over 153 million followers on his X (formerly Twitter) account, but a recent report unveils that a large portion of these followers are fake, primarily made up of inactive accounts.
Among the 153,209,283 X accounts following Musk, approximately 42% (over 65.3 million users) have no followers of their own, based on findings from researcher Travis Brown and reported by Mashable.
On average, each of these accounts following Musk has only around 187 followers.
Interestingly, merely 453,000 of Musk's followers, which is 0.3%, are subscribers to X Premium (previously Twitter Blue, costing $8 a month). A staggering 72% (almost 112 million users) of those following Musk have less than 10 followers on their accounts.
These findings suggest that many of Musk's followers appear inactive on the platform.
When examining content creation, more than 62.5 million of Musk's followers haven't posted any tweets. Furthermore, over 100 million followers have shared fewer than 10 tweets on their accounts.
Musk's acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion took place on October 27, 2022.
Interestingly, more than a quarter of Musk's current followers (38.9 million, which is over 25%) were created on or after that date.
