"Behind the Scenes of 'Barbie': Ariana Greenblatt's Memorable Moments and Unlikely Bond with Michael Cera"
Ariana Greenblatt, amidst a star-studded ensemble on the set of 'Barbie,' found herself surrounded by A-list celebrities. Among them, it was Michael Cera, cast as Allan in the world of Barbieland, who truly captured her excitement.
Recalling a time before the SAG-AFTRA strike, she shared, "I had no idea he was part of the movie. It was a surprise. I was like, 'Is that for real?'"
Her enthusiasm for Cera is evident as she jests, "I might be his biggest fan on set. I literally watched 'Superbad' non-stop in my trailer during lunch to cope." Building a friendship, Cera and Greenblatt spent time together on and off-screen, even engaging in morning rounds of Wordle. The former Disney Channel actress humbly admits, "I tried my best to stay cool around him."
In Greta Gerwig's recently released film, Greenblatt takes on the role of Sasha, a complex Gen Z preteen who's long moved on from her Barbie phase. Sasha is the daughter of Gloria, portrayed by America Ferrera. Reflecting on her character, Greenblatt shares, "Sasha is multi-dimensional. Greta has a knack for exploring the dynamics between mothers and daughters, and she beautifully incorporates this theme alongside the whirlwind of Barbie adventures."
The movie delves into Barbie's struggle to reconcile the realities of the real world with the ideal world of Barbieland. As Ken (Ryan Gosling) ushers in a patriarchal shift, Sasha and Gloria embark on a mission to free the Barbies from Ken's control. In this journey, the mother and daughter reconnect and discover their own bond.
Greenblatt aimed to make Sasha relatable, emphasizing, "I wanted to capture the essence of teenage girls accurately. Understanding them requires having been one at some point in your life."
