Wednesday, 09 August 2023
Taylor Swift has taken the lead in nominations for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. She's at the top with eight nominations, seven of them for her 'Anti-Hero' music video and one for the Artist of the Year category. Following closely is SZA with six nominations. Both Taylor Swift and SZA have been recognized in the Video of the Year category, for their respective videos 'Anti-Hero' and 'Kill Bill'. Other artists like Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, Sam Smith, and Kim Petras have all received five nominations each. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK, Diddy, and Shakira received four nominations. Taylor Swift currently holds 14 VMAs under her belt, which puts her behind artists like Beyoncé with 28 awards (two with Destiny’s Child), Madonna with 20, and Lady Gaga with 19. Beyoncé is in the running for Artist of the Year, but since she didn't release any music videos alongside 'Renaissance', she's not nominated for any other awards this year. The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards are set for September 12th and will feature a remarkable 35 first-time nominees, including Kim Petras, Metro Boomin', and Rema, each with three nominations. The event will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Fans can now cast their votes online in 15 categories that are gender-neutral, including the new addition of the best Afrobeats category. Voting will conclude on September 1st.
