A musician named Bosko Kante has filed a multimillion-dollar copyright claim against Dua Lipa and Warner Music Group in Los Angeles. He alleges that they used his talk box recording without permission in remixes of Dua Lipa's popular song "Levitating," which is from her 2020 album "Future Nostalgia." Kante insists that there was an agreement allowing his recording only in the original version, not in subsequent remixes. He's seeking more than $20 million for copyright infringement, including in remixes featuring The Blessed Madonna, rapper DaBaby, and Dua Lipa's performance at the American Music Awards.
Kante has made efforts to resolve the issue outside of court, but claims they haven't been successful due to the other party's lack of cooperation. Dua Lipa's representatives have not yet commented on this situation. Bosko Kante is known for his talent with the talk box, an instrument that modifies sounds and can mimic speech. He has worked with artists like Kanye West and Big Boi and even created a digital version of the talk box.
This is the third legal action related to the song "Levitating." In a previous case, a band called Artikal Sound System accused Dua Lipa of taking parts of their song for "Levitating." However, the case was dropped because there wasn't enough evidence that Dua Lipa and her team had heard the earlier song, a crucial aspect for a copyright claim.
