Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the famous superstar, generously donated a significant amount of money to help actors during their ongoing strike against major Hollywood studios. The strike started on July 13 and has caused financial challenges for many actors in SAG-AFTRA, a union representing film and television performers.
The SAG-AFTRA Foundation, a nonprofit organization connected to the union that offers emergency support to its members, reached out to its highest-earning actors to explain the financial difficulties they would face due to the strike. In response to this, Dwayne Johnson's team stepped forward and made an undisclosed seven-figure donation to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Emergency Financial Assistance and Disaster Relief Fund. The union confirmed this substantial contribution, highlighting it as the largest donation since the foundation's establishment in 1985.
This strike is notable as it's the first time since 1960 that both Hollywood actors and writers are on strike at the same time, causing a halt to scripted production in the industry. While the Screen Actors Guild has over 160,000 members, the strike specifically affects about 65,000 actors within the union.
