SARAH HYLAND'S MODERN FAMILY ROLE HANGS IN THE BALANCE: DEEMED 'TOO OLD' FOR HALEY DUNPHY!

Just over three years since the popular sitcom Modern Family concluded its successful 11-season run on ABC, Sarah Hyland is opening up about her journey to land the role of Haley Dunphy.

During an interview with Buzzfeed, the now 32-year-old actress revealed that she almost missed out on the opportunity because she was initially considered "too old" for the character. At the time of auditioning, she was 18, while Haley's character was supposed to be 15. The casting team was initially hesitant to see her for the role due to the age difference.

Ultimately, someone stood up for Sarah Hyland and ensured she got the chance to audition and showcase her talent.

"My agent's assistant fought for me to get in the room," she explained. "She was like, 'She doesn't look 18 years old, I promise you! She looks very, very young!'"

Hyland further revealed that the casting producers had already made up their minds about her age, and they didn't even record her initial reading.

"They pre-read me for the cast, but they didn't put my audition on tape," she recalled. However, Jeff Greenberg, the casting director, intervened and had her read for the role. He then decided to record her audition despite the initial skepticism, as the producers had the perception that she was too old at 18 years old.
