Young Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, achieved a stunning victory at Wimbledon, putting an end to Novak Djokovic's winning streak. The intense five-set match saw Carlos triumph with scores of 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, claiming the prestigious men's singles title for the very first time.
Novak Djokovic experienced his first defeat on Centre Court in over ten years, with his last loss occurring against Andy Murray in the 2013 final.
Although Carlos Alcaraz had a shaky start, winning only one game in the first set, he stayed determined and showcased remarkable passing shots to defeat one of the greatest players in tennis history.
After Djokovic's final forehand hit the net, Alcaraz collapsed onto the Centre Court grass in celebration.
Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest man to win the Challenge Cup since Boris Becker's victory in 1986 when Becker was just 18 years old.
This win is significant because it's the first time since 2002 that the Wimbledon title has been claimed by a player other than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, or Andy Murray.
In an interview after the match, Alcaraz admitted he was extremely nervous, with his legs and hands trembling during the game. Despite the pressure, he managed the tough moments exceptionally well and expressed immense happiness with his performance.
Alcaraz shared that it was probably the most nervous moment of his life, but his skill and determination prevailed. This victory marks his second Grand Slam win, having previously claimed the US Open title last year. He continues to hold the top spot as the world number one player.
