US rapper Benzino was shot while attending his mother's funeral on Saturday (March 29).

The star of TV series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta - real name Raymond E. Scott - was shot by his 36-year-old nephew, Gai Scott.

He later posted a photograph from his hospital bed, along with the caption: "Feel much better. God is real. My mother touched me, I'm certain."

Speaking to the Boston Globe, Benzino said that he had not intended to go to his mother's funeral because of an ongoing family feud.

He said: "I looked over, there was a car, and all I saw was a gun shooting at me."

Gai Scott appeared at Plymouth District Court today to face a charge of armed assault with intent to murder, but his attorney is claiming that he acted in self-defence.

Benzino is also the co-founder of influential hip-hop magazine The Source.
