The iconic Miley Cyrus breakup anthem “Flowers” dominated the charts for 10 weeks and has accumulated 147 million streams and over 80,000 downloads. Raye's "Escapism" takes the second spot in terms of sales, while SZA's "Kill Bill" follows in third place.
When it comes to albums, The Weeknd's compilation of greatest hits, "The Highlights," is the most popular choice this year, even though it was released two years ago. Taylor Swift's "Midnights" ranks second, and Harry Styles' "Harry's House" takes the third spot.
New releases face tough competition on the album chart, as classic tracks remain incredibly popular on streaming platforms, which now account for 86% of music consumption in the UK. Albums by Elton John, Eminem, and Fleetwood Mac, featuring their greatest hits, have become consistent sellers and occupy positions five, seven, and nine, respectively.
Only two albums released in 2023 have made it to the Top 10 best-sellers list: Lewis Capaldi's "Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent" at number six, and Ed Sheeran's "Subtract" at number eight.
