Azealia Banks has expressed her dissatisfaction with Matty Healy from The 1975.
The 31-year-old rapper shared her thoughts on the 34-year-old musician, who has recently made headlines for his alleged relationship with Taylor Swift and his controversial appearance on a podcast where he mocked Spice Girls' Mel B.
In an Instagram post, Azealia began by stating, "Does Matt Healy know that no one actually thinks The 1975 makes good music and that he's a lame poser with a trash cliche band name that actually means nothing?" She continued, "He's clearly so pressed that a Black girl who knows nothing about him or his music is making more moves and money than him."
Azealia went on to mention the growing prominence of Black women in the music industry, particularly in female rap, and suggested that Matty Healy's lack of success compared to hers might be the cause of his frustration. She criticized his appearance, calling him "weak in the knees, thin-jawed, and drug addicted."
Further expressing her disdain, Azealia stated that the "outrageous small white opinionated male musician thing" only works for Ariel Pink, and that The 1975 is reaching for an aesthetic they will never achieve. She dismissed their music as "crappy mid-2000s indie" and claimed that they are not relevant to most people, except perhaps "fat emo teenagers."
In another slide, Azealia wrote, "Matt Healy is one shared needle away from tetanus," implying that he engages in risky behavior.
In a follow-up message, Azealia addressed Taylor Swift, warning her that Matty Healy might give her scabies and suggesting that she work with other musicians instead, specifically mentioning James Mercer from The Shins as a talented lyricist.
Azealia concluded by stating that Taylor should avoid getting involved with Matty Healy, whom she described as an "incel" and urged her to embrace a musical style inspired by The Shins, giving a shout-out to their songs "Black Wave" and "Australia."
It is clear that Azealia Banks holds a negative opinion of Matty Healy and does not consider The 1975 to be a successful or noteworthy band.
