CATE BLANCHETT TO PERMANENTLY GIVE UP ACTING.

Cate Blanchett, the talented 54-year-old actress, opened up about her desire for new opportunities during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in a candid conversation with Variety.

In the discussion, Cate revealed her ongoing attempt to distance herself from acting. She admitted, "I'm always trying to get out of acting," while presenting her latest film, The New Boy.

For Cate, her work as a producer feels like a natural extension of her acting career. She expressed that being a producer allows her to explore different aspects of the filmmaking process. Sometimes, she finds herself in front of the camera, but other times, she takes on a more assertive role behind the scenes, playfully describing herself as "a little bit too bossy."

Cate's involvement as an executive producer in films like Carol (2015), where she also starred, and last year's Tár demonstrates her passion for shaping stories beyond acting.

During the conversation, Cate also discussed her mini-series Mrs. America (2020) and the importance of inclusivity. She and her producing partner, Coco Francini, recognized the need for diverse perspectives and made a conscious decision to interview women and people of color. Cate reflected on experiences where she found herself as the only woman on set among a majority of male colleagues, emphasizing the need for change and a more balanced gender ratio in the industry.

Looking towards the future, Cate expressed her hope for a day when interviews about women in cinema won't be necessary. She longs for a time when gender parity and equal representation become the norm.

Cate Blanchett's honest and introspective remarks at Cannes shed light on her evolving aspirations and her commitment to driving positive change in the film industry.
