We have some unfortunate news for fans eagerly awaiting the second season of HBO's acclaimed series, The Last of Us. Due to an ongoing writers strike, the casting process for the upcoming season has been put on hold.
The HBOmax show based off the Naughty Dog video game of the same name starring Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller & Bella Ramsey as his onscreen cargo... ahem daughter stole the hearts of everyone earlier this year and many have been highly anticipating the return which was estimated to be by the end of 2024 but the ongoing strike with WGA may further delay those plans.
Despite the show's initial success and early renewal, the writers strike has potentially affected the timeline for the release of the second season. Variety reports that casting for the show's second season has been paused due to the strike. The lack of completed scripts has hindered the audition process, which was set to use lines from The Last of Us Part II, the video game that serves as source material for the series.
Showrunner and co-creator Craig Mazin is directly involved in the strike and has not been able to work on the show during this time. These issues are likely to slow down the overall progress of the project's release.
The writers' strike has impacted numerous productions since its commencement on May 2, resulting in the temporary shutdowns of major shows like Disney+'s "Andor" and Netflix's "Stranger Things." However, it's worth noting that HBO's "Game of Thrones" prequel, "House of the Dragon," and Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" Season 2 remain in production, unaffected by the strike, as previously reported by Variety.
