The Wanted star Max George has confirmed that he shaved off bandmate Jay McGuiness's hair after a night of drinking.

McGuiness stunned fans last week when he appeared at a gig in Brighton with half his hair shaved off, in what many assumed was a dramatic style overhaul. At the Pride of Britain awards last night, George owned up to the prank, but argued that the unplanned hairdo looked "pretty smart".
"I actually cut it on a drunken night in and I think it looks alright," he said. "It was impromptu, but I think he's looking pretty smart."

On his decision to throw a sock containing McGuiness's hair clippings to spectators at the gig, George explained: "I couldn't find a bag, so I just used whatever I could find.
"I actually saw a picture of the girl who got it and she'd obviously had a fight over it because it was ripped to shreds, but she managed to keep hold of the hair."
Asked if having fans fight over his dirty sock was an ego boost, the singer admitted: "As long as no-one gets injured it is. It's when they get hurt that you're like, 'Oh God, what have I done?'"

George also promised that the band's upcoming 'Word of Mouth' tour would be "ten times [bigger]" than their last, commenting: "I think there'll be a lot going on honestly to deflect the fact that we won't be dancing."
